They still track you with it, it doesn't need to be a modern one. Everytime it pings a cell tower it gives you away.

Bin them, use internet on a stationary device. Talk to people when you see them. Make plans and stick to them. I've gone about 7 years with out one, its easy. Everyone you know will hate it for a good while...
